A Little Something to Drink
Well, (she said through gritted teeth) congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs, who won narrowly over the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl last weekend. But for real, there is no shame in being a second-year head coach and a 24-year-old quarterback getting to the Super Bowl, and losing to Andy Reid, one of the top 5 winningest coaches of all time.
I’ve been working through the grieving process. It certainly helped that I was with friends, old and new, having a great weekend away. Johnny had a splendid time getting treats and snuggles from the lovely ladies of Camp Kitty Petsitting.
So it’s time to look forward and ahead. On to bigger and better things!
Let’s start with a little red wine blend from Rough & Ready Wine Productions in Lodi, California, best known for zinfandel. This is a blend of petit verdot and petite sirah, two varietals that pack a heavy punch.
They both originally hail from France — petit verdot from Bordeaux and petite sirah from the Rhône — but have both found more success in warmer climates such as Australia and California. Petit refers to the size of the berries for both, and they have inky dark skin.
I get dark cherries on the nose of this deep purple wine. It’s a little jammy on the palate with raspberry and black cherry. The tannins are scattered, and the finish is kind of short.
It’s not a bad sipper, but I won’t rush to buy this again. But that’s OK. There’ll be other wines… and other Super Bowls.
