Birthday Cheers!
My birthday week! is sadly coming to a close. I’ve been off all week, and —party animal that I am — most of that time has been spent cleaning my house. Yeah, yeah, I know, but when I was sick, I really couldn’t do anything about it, and it started to get to me while I was just lying on the couch. So now I have a house I’m not embarrassed for people to see!
Trust me, much time was also spent couch potatoing with Johnny, and watching things like my favorite Christmas movie along with my Discord pals. And birthday celebrations peaked with dinner out at Brick Farm Tavern in nearby Hopewell, with Ma and Pa Wiz, and Brother Wiz.
As I’d hoped, the holiday decorations were out and beautifully done.
The restaurant has an onsite brewery, so their beers are what they’re known for. They also have a varied (and pricey) wine list. Most wines are available only by the bottle, and just a few by the glass.
I went with lamb ragu, and on the advice of Kiki the lovely server, I chose a glass of 2021 Elia Palazzesi Rosso di Montalcino.
We’re back in Tuscany, which means 100% sangiovese. Rosso di Montalcino is considered the “little brother” of Brunello di Montalcino, which is aged for longer and made with the highest quality of grapes.
I think I’m still not 100% as far as my wine discernment powers. I got a bit of a funk on the nose that Ma Wiz didn’t pick up. It’s woody on the palate. I liked it on its own and with my meal, and I very much look forward to trying it again when my taste buds are back to normal.
If you give this wine a try, let me know how you like it!
