Suddenly on the afternoon of March 6, a wild text appeared:
Your car is here!
My what? The car I ordered at the end of August? It actually exists???
Holy crow, so it did!
So here it is, my new Chevrolet Bolt EUV, also known as Thunder, the Gray Ghost.

It’s my first new car since the last months of the Dubya administration, so anything was going to be spiffy after almost 15 years and 133,000 miles. But I’m digging this whole EV thing. And my work offers no-cost charging, and if no one’s waiting for a spot? You can pretty much keep it plugged in all day!
It’s really comfortable and smooth to drive, so I’m having fun tooling around with it. On Thursday night, I drove over to Grounds for Sculpture, a special place with contemporary sculpture in and out of doors. You mean you don’t have a sculpture garden in your backyard? Huh. That’s so weird.
I was there for Bloomberg’s Women’s History Month celebration. It was the first in-person one of these since before the pandemic, and everyone was in a festive mood.
I don’t think anyone goes to work events expecting the drinks to be good, but I found this pleasant Californian pinot grigio worth adding to your party wine repertoire: Proverb Pinot Grigio, from a California winery owned by E&J Gallo.
Pinot grigio (as it’s known in Italy/known as pinot gris in France) is actually a mutation of pinot noir, and the grapes have a grayish cast. (Hey, like my car!) My choices for whites were either chardonnay or pinot grigio, and “cheap” pinot grigio is more palatable than cheap chardonnay. You run the risk with cheap chardonnay of having some nasty oak flavors from floating wood chips in there. (I did not taste the chardonnay last night, also from Proverb, so not claiming that this is what theirs tastes like.)
This is a crowd-pleaser, tending a bit more to the off-dry side. It’s fruit-forward, with soft pear and Meyer lemon (creamier than normal citrus) on the palate. You can get it for around $10 in the U.S., and I would definitely have this on hand for friends and family who aren’t dry wine enthusiasts.
As part of the evening’s festivities, we also were allowed in to experience Night Forms, an amazing light and sound display centered around some of the sculptures!

Do yourself a favor and check it out. The show is best viewed in the evening, and runs until April 2. (Bloombergers, why not enjoy dinner at Rat’s, the fantastic French restaurant that’s right there with your 10% discount, and then go enjoy the show with your complimentary tickets! Just bring your ID badge!)
So an electrifying (hurr) evening capping off an exciting week. Have a great weekend!
