Too Hot, Too Cold, Finally Something Just Right
It’s hot! It’s cold! Yup, it’s April, so of course New Jersey can’t decide if it’s summer or the end of winter. Last week the highs reached 87°F for two days straight, right after nights of freeze warnings. It’ll be in the 80°’sF again as you read this, and this morning I had to put a jacket on to walk Johnny.
What do you drink at a time like this, when you can go from overchilled to overheated in an hour? I think this 2019 Chateau Bourdieu red blend can fit the bill.
This wine hails from the Blaye-Côtes de Bordeaux, near the Medoc. The grapes of Bordeaux are primarily cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and cabernet franc. This has a pretty soft garnet color, and I get bramble on the nose. I get a little blackberry and tobacco on the palate. There’s a little freshness that hints at spring somewhere in the offing, but isn’t totally out of place curled up on the couch wrapped up in a sweater. It could work with a beefy stew or grilled burgers.
I’m off to bed under a blanket and then to make sure the AC works for tomorrow. I hope the weather picks one and sticks with it soon!
